Presidential Hands: This project pursues the observable hypothesis that patristic patriotism is the dominant religion of the United States. Not all people within the bounds of the country participate in this religion but we all feel its effects through shifting political tides and rapidly radicalizing interpersonal relationships. In this religion, historical figures are given sacred statuses among Patriotists who elevate the documents of Founders to parallel religious founders, particularly among the Christian Right, but also among atheists, neomedieval anti-Christians (such as Norse revivalists), and most dominantly among those with white supremacist overtones borne out of religious belief in the reality of divine hierarchies. Allegiance and faith to the idea/l of The Nation are required for entry into this religion which then provides an unshakeable sense of belonging, privilege, rightness and power.
